Team Hounslow’s Tyra Khambai-Annan travelled to Sheffield to defend her 60m national title she won in 2018.
Tyra arrived in Sheffield rank 3 in the country, and negotiated her way through the first round and semi-final with ease running 7.77 and 7.74, slowing down before the line on both occasions.
Ready for the final Tyra for the first time in her young athletics career false started, later claiming her foot slipped down the blocks.
With nerves already in the air and the now added pressure, Tyra reacted late to the gun and found herself unusually behind after the first few steps, and having to fight her way back through the pack to finish 3rd in 7.78, the same time she won with last year, with the winner and second place both running the same time.
Tyra said ‘To be honest, my coach and I wasn’t planning on running the 60m indoors this year, we planned to run more 200s to help me perform better in the summer. So I’m actually quite happy with today considering.’
Tyra’s next race will be the Middlesex championships, on Saturday/Sunday 16th/17th/ March, where she will be aiming to retain her title.
